In 1974, the Fr. Agnels and its ancillaries were in news for making components of Aryabhata, the first satellite sent into space by India. The department has derived its legacy from the Production Engineering course which has been conducted for the past 38 years. With a legacy in Production Engineering, our Department has long been recognized for its strong postgraduate and doctoral programs in Mechanical Engineering. In alignment with evolving industry needs and market dynamics, the Production Engineering program was closed and new program in Mechanical Engineering was started in the academic year 2019–20.
What we offer?
- B.Tech with Multidisciplinary Minor

This experience has established great connections and a large presence of our alumni from production engineering background in national and multinational companies like Tesla, Larsen & Toubro, Godrej & Boyce, Siemens, Mahindra & Mahindra, Mercedes Benz, General Mills, Tata Consultancy Services, Mazgaon Dock, and Accenture, etc. In the past students who pursued Post graduate degrees abroad were admitted to universities of repute.
The department has 8 laboratories, equipped with some state-of-the-art scientific instruments and systems. 3D printing machines, CNC machines, Automation with PLC, Industrial Robots, Computer workstations, CAD/CAM software for simulation and analysis, Conventional Machines, HVAC, Turbo Machinery, IC engines, and Metallurgical microscopes are a few to name among the hardware available for instructions.
Professional Societies and Student Chapters such as ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers), IIIExCRCE (Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering are active within the department.
Students of the department are enthusiastic and active members of various technical competition teams, such as Abadha, CFR, Vaayushastra, and Mavericks, that compete in numerous technical competitions at the national and international level. Over the years, our students have performed exceptionally well in national and international competitions involving ATVs, Go-Karts, Robotics, Aero, Quad-copter, Hackathons, and Idea competitions.
The department is evolving to keep up with the ever-increasing challenges in technology development. The instructional methods are designed in response to the changing industry needs to make students employable. Students are encouraged to undertake internships and Project-based learning.
The well-qualified faculty members of the department drive these activities through their teaching and innovative projects and research, covering numerous concentrations of Mechanical Engineering Science and its Applications in Thermal and Fluids Engineering, Design Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering.
